Studio Work
My primary artistic motivation is to investigate, question, and represent how meaning is visually communicated. Although I engage with a variety of subjects—from personal portraits of friends to symbols of international political movements—an awareness of broad art historical trends and understanding of linguistic semiotics is foundational to my practice. Naturally, my work incorporates many media, but printmaking is frequently employed to play with meaning across multiple reproductions. It is my intent that my viewers become aware of the explicit and implicit signs that carry meaning within my pieces, and walk away with an impression of the inadequacy of signifiers to represent the complexity of the real world.
